Foreign Language Programs
The world is changing. Cultures and economies across the globe are becoming increasingly intertwined. As a result, those who are familiar with more than one language are being exposed to new and exciting career opportunities.
Do you want to keep pace with the evolving world? If so, then National University's language and cultural programs are for you.
National University offers language and cultural awareness programs which promote worldwide understanding. The first three language programs which have been identified by the U.S. State Department as critical need languages are Arabic, Chinese and Farsi.
On completion of a certificate program, students will have developed the ability to interact successfully in a variety of general communicative situations, to read short texts, and to deal generally with the languages in their most essential uses. The certificates are designed for professionals in government, military, and business who wish to increase their knowledge of the language, culture, history, and politics of the Middle East and/or China. The language standards of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) serve as a road map for delineating and developing appropriate content, philosophy, methods, and benchmarks for the program.
The certificate consists of three courses and is designed to be completed in 180 days: each course is a 60-day class the content of which will be made available for review to the student for one month following completion of each class. Each course includes learning modules for instruction in language, culture, history, and politics. The modules are discrete components accessible for repeated review and practice, and are comprised of short streaming videos on culture, history, and language; as well as entertaining language and cultural information. Lectures will be delivered live online at specific times as well as recorded for review at later dates.
