BIO470A Bioinformatics Lab

Course Description

Techniques essential to bioinformatics. Topics include practical knowledge of databases, basic commands in Unix and R, sequence alignment and annotation, and gene-expression quantification.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of line commands necessary for many bioinformatics programs.
  • Apply sequence alignment techniques and demonstrate the process of genome annotation.
  • Apply functional genomics techniques through analysis of variant annotation and gene expression.
  • Develop a research project in bioinformatics using the above techniques.
