Course Description

Study of biological principles including the chemical basis of life, cell structure and function, energy transformations, cell division, geneticsand the origin of life.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the structure and function of cell components and major organelles including the cell plasma membrane.
  • Discuss the use of chemical energy in cellular activity, including photosynthesis and aerobic respiration.
  • Describe the function and structure of the cytoplasmic membrane system, and trafficking through it.
  • Explain the nature of the gene and genome, DNA replication and gene expression.
  • Describe the communication between cells including signal transduction and cell signaling.
  • Describe the basic immune response from a molecular perspective.
