COM422 Tech. Writing & Presentation

Course Description

An advanced workshop for technical writers, that applies the principles covered in COM 200 and ENG 334A specifically to technical presentations for non-technical audiences. Focuses on writing styles appropriate for user manuals as well as oral presentations and offers training in platform skills, audio-visual techniques and other strategies needed to make technical information understood by business managers, end-users and the public.

  • Determine the focus, audience, length, organization, and presentation style to use.
  • Use effective research methods.
  • Meet project deadlines.
  • Organize and format information for maximum clarity.
  • Write at least one revised draft for each major writing assignment, paying attention to comments from the instructor and your peers.
  • Criticize other's writing and evaluate their presentations for content and delivery.
  • Summarize technical information for technical and non-technical audiences.
