Course Description
This course covers areas of second/foreign language education including but not limited to: teaching Heritage Language Learners (HLLs). Issues relevant to Heritage Language Learners and Heritage Language teaching/learning and Non Heritage Language Learners and Non Heritage Language teaching/learning will be covered along with linguistic, demographic, sociolinguistic and sociocultural profiles.
Learning Outcomes
- Have a basic understanding of research on Current Issues in Second Language Pedagogy re teaching of English as a second/foreign language reading and writing to Heritage Language Learners.
- Use their gained understanding of Issues in Second Language Pedagogy, to develop activities for teaching Heritage Language Learners.
- Critically analyze approaches and methods in teaching ESL/EFL to Heritage Language Learners.
- Survey traditional and innovative approaches in teaching to Heritage Language Learners.
- Evaluate current materials for teaching to Heritage Language Learners from primary and secondary sources in the field.
- Conduct research in areas of Heritage Language Learners; and the intersection of the areas of second language acquisition.
