SDSHRM Bestows Award Upon National In Mega Companies Category
National University was recognized as one of the region's best places to work when the San Diego Society for Human Resource Management (SDSHRM), in partnership with The Union-Tribune, named the University as a recipient of a 2005 Workplace Excellence Award.
"National University is committed to providing employees with an enriching and productive work environment that allows individuals to pursue their personal and professional goals," said National University System Chancellor and National University President Dr. Jerry C. Lee. "We are honored that the Society for Human Resource Management has chosen National University as one of San Diego's best places to work."
The 2005 San Diego Workplace Excellence Award recipients include:
Grand Prize: Cox Communications
Mega Companies (901 employees or more)
Marble: Zoological Society of San Diego
Crystal: National University; County of San Diego
Large Companies (446-900 employees)
Marble: San Diego Convention Center
Crystal: Mental Health Systems; Mission Federal Credit Union
Mid-Size Companies (150-445 employees)
Crystal: The Iris Group/Modern Postcard; Encore Capital Group – Midland Credit Management
Small Companies (1-149 employees)
Crystal: TEAL Electronics; High Moon Studios
The award winners were chosen from a field of more than 140 employers, ranging from high tech companies to small companies with less than 50 employees and large organizations with more than 1,500 employees. The nominated companies were invited to apply for the award by completing an application that was then reviewed by a panel of judges. Winners were selected, based on predetermined criteria, as recipients of the 2005 Workplace Excellence Award.
Headquartered in La Jolla, National University is the second-largest, non-profit, private, WASC-accredited institution of higher learning in California. The San Diego WEA is the second time National University has been recognized for its commitment to its employees in the past year. National University also received the Sacramento Workplace Excellence Leader Award in 2005.
