2016 National University Military Scholarship Recipients

National University and the San Diego Padres honor National University Military Scholarship winners annually during a special pre-game event. This year’s Military Appreciation Day event is slated for the Sunday, July 17 ballgame against the San Francisco Giants at Petco Park. The National University Military Scholarship Program recognizes National University students who live in San Diego, are active-duty military or military veterans, and who have demonstrated sustained educational success and leadership. Here are stories of five of the ten recipients.
 

National University to Co-Host Second Annual Better Together: California Teachers Summit

National University’s Sanford College of Education, which recommends more teachers for credentials than any other university in California, will co-host the second annual Better Together: California Teachers Summit on July 29, 2016. The Summit is a free statewide day of learning and networking that is open to all California PreK-12 teachers, teacher candidates, school administrators, and other educators. National University - which held one of the largest of the statewide events last year - invites San Diego area teachers to share ideas, join a teacher network, and learn effective strategies for implementing the new California Standards in their classrooms. Running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Summit will take place at the Town and Country Convention Center, located at 500 Hotel Circle N. in San Diego.

National University and Leadership Expert, Stedman Graham, Support Military Children Education Efforts at National Conference

Stedman Graham—professor at National University, New York Times bestselling author, and widely regarded speaker in the topic of leadership principles—was the keynote speaker at the Military Child Education Coalition conference on June 27 in Washington DC. He was joined by National University’s Military and VA Programs team, which hosted a booth at the conference in support of military families and their children.

National University Partners with Scripps Health-Affiliated Group to Expand Student Internship Opportunities

National University, one of the largest private, nonprofit universities in California, is combining forces with a Scripps Health-affiliated physicians group to make it easier for students studying healthcare administration and public health to land internships from among hundreds of local physician groups.

National University Nursing Student Emily Stone Looks to the Future

Emily Stone was just months away from completing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at National University, looking forward to helping others, when she found the tables drastically turned. She was no longer just a nurse in training, but also a patient diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her doctors told her she would require an immediate course of chemotherapy treatments and numerous hospital stays over the coming months.
