National University Funds $100,000 NBCT Scholarship

Money will help up to 150 students with application fees

National University has funded a $100,000 scholarship for up to 150 students interested in becoming National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Half of the scholarship money is reserved to fund the $500 NBCT application fee for 100 teachers who enroll in the NBCT five-course certificate program or the Master of Arts in Teaching program with the NBCT specialization.  The additional $50,000 will be offered as scholarships  to those who enroll the Master of Arts in Teaching program with the NBCT specialization. The scholarships are being presented on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The total fee for the NBCT process is $2,500. There are 31 states which currently provide some form of financial support to NBCTs. In most states, the reimbursement is partial and paid only after the applicant achieves certification – a process which takes one year or more to achieve.  California has a Candidate Subsidy Program that pays fifty percent of the $2,500 application fee at the time the applications are received, contingent upon the availability of funds.
