Scholarship Presented to SOE Student
in conjunction with the Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union
National University, in conjunction with the Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union, announced National University student Cecelia Isabel Villanueva as the winner of its Worthy Student Scholarship earlier this year. An official presentation of the scholarship was held at the university's Costa Mesa campus in August.
Ms. Villanueva is an undergraduate in the Early Childhood Education program at National University. She was born and raised in East Los Angeles, was the first in her family to graduate from high school and applied to National as a reentry student after 20 years. In addition to being an excellent student, she was acknowledged for her perseverance and determination in overcoming numerous financial, technological and personal challenges in her desire to realize her educational goals.
"All of my instructors have been very helpful. They have showed me that no matter how long it takes you to get back to school, if you are willing to really work at it there is always someone there to help you," Villanueva said.
In FY05, National University awarded more than $1,335,810 in scholarships to 1,069 students in need and traditionally underserved populations.
