National University Names Two New Deans
National University has announced the hiring of two new deans. Dr. Gloria Johnston has been named Dean of the School of Education. Dr. Debra Schneiger has been named Dean of the School of Media and Communication.
Dr. Johnston has more than 30 years of experience as an instructor, tutor, bilingual teacher, principal, school district director, and superintendent. She has been a superintendent since 1993, including the past six-and-a-half years (1999-2005) with the West Contra Costa Unified School District in Richmond, California, where she guided a culturally-diverse, urban school district of more than 33,000 students in 60 schools.
Dr. Johnston earned a Ph.D. in public policy analysis from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She earned a master's degree in bilingual/bicultural education and bachelor's in education from Northern Illinois University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She earned her associate's degree from Elgin Community College.
Dr. Schneiger brings more than 20 years of experience in education and as a communications executive. Most recently, she was an Associate Dean in the School of Media Arts at Columbia College in Chicago, a premier visual, performing, media, and communications arts college with 10,000 students in an urban campus environment serving traditional and non-traditional students. Dr. Schneiger has also held positions with various marketing and communications-based companies, including twohundredtwelve, VSA Partners, Inc., Quantum Leap Communications, Editel, and Independent Programming Associates.
Dr. Schneiger earned a Master's of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado.
