National University Names New VP of Advancement and Alumni Relations
Maggie T. Watkins has been named Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations.
Watkins has more than 25 years of experience as a professional services executive in sales and business development, client relations, communications, public relations, marketing, advertising and strategic planning. She has also held tenure with a national law firm and several accounting and insurance firms.
Before joining National University, Watkins served as the President and CEO of Meritas, a network of 175 law firms in 60 countries. As President, she oversaw a staff of 12 full-time employees and an annual budget of more than $3 million.
Prior to her stint at Meritas, Watkins was the Director of Marketing for the full-service law firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP. She has also held executive positions at Aetna Life & Casualty, United Insurance Company of America, and the accounting firms of West, Turnquist & Schmitt and Ernst & Young.
Watkins has served or is currently serving on numerous boards, including Corporate Directors Forum, Project Concern International, Vista Hill Foundation, The American Heart Association, The East County Performing Arts Center, LEAD San Diego, Inc., Girl Scouts and YMCA.
On a national level, she is a past president of the Law Marketing Association (LMA) and the Association of Accounting Marketing (AAM).
Watkins has received many honors, including the San Diego Business Journal's "Women Who Mean Business" award in marketing and San Diego's "10 Coolest Women" by the Girl Scouts, and was one of San Diego Magazine's "50 to Watch" in 2003.
Watkins earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
