National University Offers Free High School Tuition to Katrina Students
In an effort to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina and help with recovery efforts, National University has developed a plan to offer free tuition to displaced students Grades 9-12 in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi who wish to attend the National University Virtual High School while the region recovers from devastating natural disaster.
Under the leadership of National University System Chancellor and National University President Dr. Jerry C. Lee, the focus of the plan is to offer high school students in the affected areas the opportunity to continue their education with as few disruptions as possible. National University will work closely with the governors, legislatures, and state high school superintendents to bring this project to fruition. National University's initial plans are to make the free tuition available for one full academic year.
In addition, National University is approaching corporate partners and friends of the University to solicit their support in providing laptop computers and books so they can resume their studies as quickly as possible.
A pioneer in developing online programs for undergraduate and graduate college students, the National University System established the National University Virtual High School to meet the rising demand for high-quality, affordable and accessible online courses for high school students. NUVHS offers unique, high-quality curriculum and supplemental programs serving a range of online learners.
