Jerry Sanders to govern America's 7th largest city
National University wishes to congratulate alumnus Jerry Sanders (Bachelor of Public Administration, 1988) for being elected mayor of San Diego on November 8.
Mr. Sanders defeated another National University alumnus, Donna Frye (Bachelor of Business Administration, 1984), in the bid to take charge of the nation's seventh largest city. He won 54 percent of the vote to Ms. Frye's 46 percent.
Formerly Chief of the San Diego Police Department from 1993 to 1999, Mr. Sanders also served as President and CEO of United Way of San Diego and as a board member of the American Red Cross San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapters. He is credited with turning around both charitable organizations in times of crisis, reinvigorating their leadership and restoring public confidence.
