Center for Cultural and Ethnic Studies to Discuss America's Global Role

The National University Center for Cultural and Ethnic Studies (NUCCES) will host a town hall meeting this month, in affiliation with the United Nations Foundation

Two years ago the United Nations Foundation partnered with 29 other non-partisan organizations to create a series of public forums across the nation titled The People Speak: A Discussion of America's Role in the World.  This year the theme is: Building a Safer World: Defining the U.S.-U.N. Relationship for the 21st Century.

On Monday, November 21, NUCESS will present US and UN Strategies to Incorporate Gender in the Fight against Poverty, Hunger and Health Risks: Lessons from the field. The town hall meeting will be held in the CRC room at the National University Spectrum Library, from 6 to 8 p.m.  The address is 9393 Lightwave Avenue, San Diego, CA 92123.

The event, which is free to National University alumni, includes a panel presentation by Dr. Rae Lesser Blumberg, University of Virginia and Dr. Lorna Lueker Zukas, National University.  The panel will be moderated by Dr. Gwen Stowers from National University's School of Education.

Dr. Blumberg is a Gender and Development expert. She is well-known for her general theory of gender stratification. Dr. Zukas has worked in the field of Gender and Development since 1992.  Her work on "Women, War and Social Change in Zimbabwe: The Challenge of Independence," is forthcoming from Africa World Press.
