Chancellor Lee Announces Initiation of Ph.D. Program

Doctoral Development Committee is Formed

National University System Chancellor and National University President Dr. Jerry C. Lee has announced the initiation of the development of a National University Ph.D. program.

According to Chancellor Lee, the program will be grounded in a combination of theory and praxis, and is intended to serve the populations historically served by National University, particularly women and persons of color.

The process began in September with the appointment of a Doctoral Development Committee, chaired by Farhang Mossavar-Rahmani, associate professor in the School of Business and Management and Chair of the Graduate Council.

Chancellor Lee has requested that the Committee submit a draft proposal of the doctoral program in December, which may then be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in 2007.  From there, the proposal would go to the Graduate Council and then to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for approval. The current goal is to launch such a program in January of 2008.

"A doctoral program will represent a timely and essential milestone in the evolution of our University," said Chancellor Lee. "I call on the University Community to provide the (Doctoral Development) Committee its suggestion and support.
