New Academic Centers Opening in Camarillo and Ontario

National University is opening two new academic centers in Southern California this spring, one in Camarillo and another in Ontario. The new locations bring the total number of campuses in California to 29, serving 15 major metropolitan areas.

The Camarillo location will serve students in North Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, significantly reducing the commute for many who have been attending classes in Sherman Oaks.  The facility is scheduled to open for classes in April. An open house event is being planned for May.

"Bless National University," said School of Education student Stacey Beamon after hearing about the new campus in Camarillo. Ms. Beamon lives and works in Newbury Park, just up the grade from Camarillo. She is currently a substitute teacher, working for the Conejo Valley Unified School District while she pursues her teaching credential and master's degree in education.

Ms. Beamon said she appreciates National University because "It is so conducive to being able to work."  However, she wasn't looking forward to the long drive from Newbury Park to the nearest National University facility in Sherman Oaks.  "I dreaded having to cross the Agoura Hills line," she added, referring to the geographic barriers that separate Southern Ventura County and Northern Los Angeles County from the San Fernando Valley.

The Ontario location will serve students in East Los Angeles and West San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.  The area where these three counties converge, which is commonly referred to as the Inland Empire, is one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States.  A campus in Ontario will provide greater convenience to Inland Empire residents, many of whom have been attending classes in Orange County or San Bernardino. National University Ontario is scheduled to open in May.
