Discussing the Educational Implications of Video Gaming

What does higher education have to do with video gaming?

Consider the fact that video gaming is now a $10 billion industry, with annual sales that out gross Hollywood's box office earnings. Think of the sophisticated technology behind the often sophomoric themes; as well as the marketing and the complex licensing agreements. The video gaming industry is currently spurring  a broad range of positions that require a background in multimedia design theory, production and project management.

Earlier this year, Dr. Michael McAnear and James Juarez from the School of Media and Communication presented "Video Gaming: Implications for Education" at the Fourth Annual Conference on Arts and Humanities.

This is an example of the out-of-the-box thinking that led to changes  to the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia program at National University. The revised degree program now includes new concentrations in digital audio and video, graphics, web development and video game art. Producing video and audio for podcasting is also part of these new studies.
