Grant Opportunities for Teachers

Garden Teaching Grants

Due Date: March 31, 2005

Through the Healthy Sprouts Award program, the National Gardening Association and Gardener's Supply Company have partnered to support schools and community organizations that use gardens to teach about nutrition and explore the issue of hunger in the United States. Selected programs will receive an award package of seeds, tools, garden products, and educational resources for growing a vegetable garden. Five of the selected programs will also receive $500 in cash and a $200 gift certificate to the Gardener's Supply Company catalog.

A+ for Energy Program for California Teachers

Due Date: April 4, 2005

BP, a global energy provider, is accepting applications for the 2005 A+ for Energy program. In 2005, the program will award $2 million in grants and scholarships to California K-12 teachers to implement creative and innovative educational programs that teach students about energy and energy conservation.

The grants, in amounts of $5,000 or $10,000, are presented directly to teachers who submit creative classroom, after school, extracurricular, or summer activities focused on energy education and/or energy conservation. Any K-12 teacher currently teaching in a California public or private school is eligible to submit an application.

VSA arts Call for Children's Art

VSA arts' 2005 Call for Children's Art invites children of all abilities in grades K-12 to submit visual artwork. Entitled "Art is...," the Call for Art is designed to raise awareness of the importance of the arts and arts in education for students of all abilities.

Horace Mann Companies Offers Funding for Educators
 
 Deadline: May 14, 2005
 
For the third consecutive year, the Horace Mann Companies, a national insurance company focusing on educators' financial needs, will offer scholarships totaling $30,000 to help educators continue their education.
 
 This year's program will offer thirty-six awards, including one $5,000 award payable over four years, fifteen $1,000 awards payable over two years, and twenty one-time $500 awards.
 
 To be eligible, an applicant must be an educator employed by a U.S. public or private school district or U.S. public or private college/university and planning to take classes at a two- or four-year accredited college or university.  The applicant must have a minimum of two years' teaching experience.

Jordan Fundamentals Program Supports Teachers in Low-Income School

Due Date: June 15, 2005

The Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program recognizes outstanding teaching and instructional creativity in public schools that serve economically disadvantaged students. The program is presented by the Jordan Brand, a division of Nike, Inc. and administered by Scholarship America. Grant funds must be used for resource materials, supplies, equipment, transportation, or costs related to field trips, software, and other items required to implement and assess the proposed lesson or thematic unit.

Applicants must be public school teachers or paraprofessionals working with students in grades one through twelve and be employed by an accredited public school where at least 50 percent of the school's student population is eligible for the free or reduced school lunch program
