Class Notes

Kenneth Dodd (BBA, 1985) used his marketing degree from National University to gain a position as a marketing director, then later to establish his own marketing firm. He served eight years as Director of Advertising for Bianchi International, Temecula, California, and three years as Marketing Director for Safariland Limited of Monrovia, California. Both firms manufacture and distribute police leather equipment and sports-related products to a global market. He established Final Touch Marketing in Temecula, California, a marketing/advertising agency specializing in Brand Identity and Awareness. From his home office, he continues to serve as a marketing consultant for clients located nationwide on a number of brand identity and awareness assignments. Ken is a recipient of the Society for Technical Communication's Honor of Excellence, as well as a Merit Award, an Award of Excellence and multiple Addy Awards from the American Advertising Federation.

Eric Goldner (BBA, 1990) is the global footwear director of costing for Nike. He moved to the shoe manufacturer's world headquarters last December from the Netherlands, where he served as pricing director at the company's European headquarters in Hilversum.  Mr. Goldner has been with Nike for eight years.  His wife, who is also a National University alumnus, works for Nike in the apparel business unit.

Tim Kane (MA, 2005) has had his thesis accepted for publication. McFarland & Company will publish Metamorphosis of the Vampire: Evolution of the Genre through Film and Television in 2006. "This book would not have been born had it not been for National's MA in English program," Kane said. The book will be used in English and Film Studies programs at the university level.

Erick Tohir (MBA, 1993) has emerged as a media mogul in Indonesia. The International Herald Tribune recognized Mr. Tohir recently for taking a money-losing newspaper (Republika) and increasing sales 70 percent within five years.  Today,  Republika is ranked third in Indonesia in terms of circulation.  Mr. Tohir, whose company has also purchased magazines, television and radio stations, and advertising and film production firms, is also winning praise for fighting corruption.  The International Herald Tribune lauds him and others for "espousing a new business-school morality and promising to make changes to a predatory corporate culture."
