Center for Organizational Excellence Update

Client sees synergy, increased retention as returns on investment in employee education

Roel Construction, a client of National University's recently established Center for Organizational Excellence, is touting the benefits of  management classes in which it has enrolled its employees, according to a December article in the San Diego Daily Transcript.

The Center was introduced to the public last summer in order to provide companies with high quality consulting services and executive seminars, giving executives access to cutting edge thinking and strategies from business and academic professionals. It is the only organizational consulting practice in the nation that is attached to a business school.

According to Roel San Diego Division President Kevin Elliot, his company sees long term advantages in developing the professional skills of its construction managers, including strategic planning, leadership development and improved communications.  The bottom line is creating synergy within the workplace while retaining valuable employees.

"That's a great strategy," said Jim Ryan, executive vice president of the San Diego Associated General Contractors, of which Roel is a member.  Mr. Ryan was quoted in the Daily Transcript article.

Mr. Elliott said that his participation in the Center for Organizational Excellence was in response to feedback from his employees, who have indicated that they value career development as an important company perk.

Partnerships between higher education and industry may be a trend in the future as the concept of the corporate university and onsite learning in the workplace grow more popular.
