John F. Cady Named Executive Vice President

National University System Chancellor Jerry C. Lee has announced the appointment of John F. Cady, Ph.D., as executive vice president for National University. Dr. Cady brings to this position his educational leadership background at Harvard, MIT and Duke universities, as well as his entrepreneurial experience as an innovator in adult education.
In his new position, Dr. Cady will provide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, student services, development and alumni relations, and regional operations and marketing. He will also assist Dr. Lee in the continuous elevation of academic quality and student service across all areas of the University. According to Dr. Cady, "National University has a remarkable history of developing innovative educational programs to meet the needs of diverse students populations. My initial goal is to help successfully implement the programs currently under development and to help identify new educational opportunities consistent with the mission and vision of the school."
About the appointment, Dr. Lee said, "National University provides relevant and accessible programs to anyone interested in the pursuit of knowledge. Prior to his appointment as executive vice president, Dr. Cady served at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, first as associate dean for executive education and then as associate dean for executive programs. He was responsible for the executive general management curriculum of the Fuqua School overseeing its portfolio of four regional and global executive MBA programs. He also led Fuqua's open enrollment and tailored non-degree executive programs. During Dr. Cady's tenure at Duke, the Financial Times ranked Fuqua's custom and open enrollment executive programs #1 in the world. At Fuqua he held the faculty rank of Professor of the Practice of Management and served as a scholar at Duke University's Center for Leadership and Ethics.
Before taking on responsibilities at Fuqua, Dr. Cady served as a founder and managing partner of the Boston-based Center for Executive Development (CED), a provider of senior-level customized executive education programs. His educational experience also includes 11 years as a faculty member at Harvard Business School, where he specialized in business strategy, public policy and marketing. Additionally, Dr. Cady served as senior lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, where he taught in MIT's Senior Executive Program and the Sloan Fellows' Program. He also served on the faculties of major international business schools including Keio University in Japan, Queens University in Canada, Witswatersrand in South Africa and INSEAD in France.

Dr. Cady has published 50 case studies on business strategy, planning and implementation and has authored articles in numerous research journals and other academic publications. Dr. Cady's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in economics, a Master of Business Administration and a Ph.D. in management from the State University of New York.
