Annual Alumni Campaign Begins this Month
The Advancement and Alumni Relations department will launch its Annual Alumni Campaign later this month. Graduates will receive letters from their prospective deans, requesting contributions to one of National University's six established endowments.
The goal for this year's campaign is to increase alumni participation. A university's reputation is frequently assessed by the giving rate of its alumni. U.S. News & World Report, for example, measures alumni giving rates in determining its yearly "America's Best Colleges" rankings.
As a former student at National University, you can contribute to the prestige of your alma mater with a modest donation. Your contribution will also help to support deserving students, as well as new equipment and facilities. It will attract renowned scholars, enhance your state-of-the-art library, promote continued innovation in the classroom and foster wellness and health within the University community.
You are encouraged to review your campaign letter when it arrives; to familiarize yourself with our six endowments (see below); to engage where appropriate and respond accordingly. Your dean will share information regarding new initiatives within the various schools, and how they will affect and enhance the time you have already invested here.
This is an opportunity for you to make a statement about the value of your diploma and your affiliation with your alma mater. Your gift, should you choose to contribute, is tax deductible.
Contributions to National University endowments support the following:
Scholarship Endowment - provides support to victims of domestic violence, military personnel and their dependents, and other need-based funding.
General Endowment - supports special projects, new facilities and equipment, and new programs.
Library Endowment - maintains the onsite and online library resources and ensures that they are both state-of-the-art.
Clum Charles and Gwendolyn Bucher Endowment for Faculty Scholarship Abroad - provides opportunities for faculty to learn and teach abroad, and for foreign faculty to teach at the University.
Jerry C. Lee Endowed Chair for Technology and the Adult Learner - dedicated to technological innovations in the classroom. In the past, the Chair was held by Robert R. Davila, Ph.D., a leading researcher and advocate for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
Institute for Wellness and Peak Performance Endowment - dedicated to the gathering and dissemination of reliable and scientifically based information to affect a positive change in the wellness and performance of all members of society.
Endowment for Health and Human Services - provides financial support to the School of Health and Human Services and the Division of Wellness and Health by supporting students and programs that address health and wellness needs.
You can also give non-endowment gifts, such as scholarship funding that is paid out within the same year. For more information, visit the web at http://www.nu.edu/Community/Development.html or contact the office of advancement and alumni relations at (858)642-8095.
