They Psychology Department in the National University College of Letters and Sciences is hosting a symposium on reducing stigma, Friday evening, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at National University in Rancho Cordova.
Speakers will include Dr. Gregory Herek, Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Davis; Ms. Cindy Claflin, Director of Training and Education at United ADvocates for Children and Families; and Dr. Nader Shabahangi, a licensed psychotherapist and Founder and President of AgeSong.
Stigma has been an enduring social problem that has attracted the interests of academics, politicians, the courts, and mental health professionals for decades. The Symposium at National University will focus on effective stigma reduction programs at both individual and community levels, involving stigma affecting (1) the mentally ill; (2) the elderly; and (3) LGBT persons.
Professionals, academics, alumni and students are all invited to attend.
