National University Hosts Consortium of Computing Sciences in Colleges
The southwestern region of the Consortium of Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC) held its second annual conference at National University’s Spectrum campus on April 3-4.
The regional conference focused on computer science education, and included 18 presentations, three tutorials, and two invited speakers: Mr. Andrew Begel, a researcher in the Human Interactions in Programming Group at Microsoft Research; and Dr. Cay Horstmann, Professor of Computer Science at San Jose State University and the author of several books on programming and Object Oriented Design. What did they speak about? Why was it interesting?
Alireza Farahani, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Engineering and Technology’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, is among the group of faculty who petitioned the national office of CCSC to establish the southwestern region. Professor Farahani is currently on the southwestern regional steering committee and served as regional chair of the conference at Spectrum.
CCSC is a non-profit organization focused on promoting quality computer-oriented curricula as well as effective use of computing in higher education. It supports activities which assist faculty in making appropriate judgments concerning computing resources and educational applications of computer technology.
