SOET Faculty Honored and Welcomed at Adjunct Summit
Seven adjunct faculty were recognized and 16 new adjunct faculty were welcomed to the National University School of Engineering and Technology (SOET) at the School’s semi-annual Adjunct Summit in January.
Haifei Zeng and Stan Rifkin were presented with the 2008-2009 Adjunct Faculty Outstanding Teacher Award. Additionally, Matthew Tasooji, Jeffrey Appel, Daniel Burke, Chuck Bane, and Arun Datta were presented with the 2008-2009 Adjunct Faculty Outstanding Service Award.
At the summit, adjunct faculty were introduced to academic and course management guidelines, and topics such as publishing, evaluations, class dismissal times, rescheduling classes, and upcoming conferences were also discussed.
Adjunct faculty represent two of four tiers of faculty at National University, including: (1) full-time faculty; (2) associate faculty; (3) core adjunct faculty; and (4) adjunct faculty.
Core adjunct faculty are instructors who make a half-time commitment to the University faculty over the course of the year. They are contracted to teach a designated number of courses per year; advise students on course, program or career-related issues; participate in departmental, school and University activities; and engage in scholarship relevant to their teaching.
