The San Diego Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) presented a 2009 Friend of the Industry Award to National University at the chapter’s annual awards banquet on April 23.
The mission of CMAA is to promote and enhance leadership, professionalism, and excellence in managing the development and construction of projects and programs.
The San Diego Chapter’s Friend of the Industry Award is presented annually in recognition of a collaborative partner that has gone above and beyond in its support for CMAA and has consistently encouraged others to participate in chapter programs and activities.
Thomas Gatton, Ph.D., a professor in National University’s School of Engineering and Technology’s (SOET) Department of Applied Engineering, accepted the award on behalf of National.
“I’m proud that our students and faculty are actively involved in what is probably the premier national organization in construction management,” said Professor Gatton. “If you go to a chapter meeting, you will likely see several faces from National University.”
In addition to networking opportunities and the chance to gain professional knowledge, students also benefit from CMAA’s support of internships and scholarships. This year, the San Diego Chapter will contribute close to $17,000 to deserving scholars.
SOET offers a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, which fills a pressing need for individuals interested in conducting and managing activities in the construction industry. The degree program was developed with significant industry guidance and assistance.
SOET also offers a Construction Management certificate program, providing an opportunity for students to obtain the essential skills for managing construction projects.
