25 Percent of Principals at San Diego Unified School District Are National University Alumni

 A review of principals at San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) reviews that one in four of them are National University alumni.

SDUSD serves more than 132,000 students in pre-school through grade 12, and is the second largest district in California. The 42 National University alumni serving as SDUSD principals comprise 26 percent of all principals within the district.

Of the 166 schools within SDUSD, six of the 24 high schools are headed by principals who earned a credential or degree from the School of Education (SOE) at National University. That includes the following principals at some of the top academically performing high schools in the district:

Pat Crowder (MS, Ed. Admin., 1984) -  La Jolla High School  -  849 API
Scott Giusti (M.Ed., 1999)  -  Mira Mesa High School  -  844 API
Jeff Olivero (MS, Ed. Admin., 1995)  -  University City High School  -  810 API

Eight of the 25 SDUSD middle schools are headed by principals who are National University alumni; and 28 of 117 elementary schools principals within SDUSD are also SOE graduates or credential completers. That includes:

Mike Rood (MS, Ed., 2000) at 2013 California Distinguished School, Mt. Everest Academy.
