Alumni Group on LinkedIn Surpasses 1,000 Members

Meanwhile, the professional social media site reaches the 200 million mark

As usage of the professional social network Linked In proliferates, so too are the National University alumni groups on the site.

The National University Alumni Networking Group, the official, largest and most comprehensive of 12 National University alumni groups on LinkedIn, reached a milestone of 1,000 members in May.

Created in 2008, it took more than two years to reach 100 members, and only surpassed the 500 mark in August 2012. The site, which is free to join, includes 13 subgroups (including several regional hubs), and 27 percent of its members are senior level professionals. Members gain access to valuable data, such as the industries in which fellow graduates work; the specific companies they work for; and their job function, seniority level and years of experience.

Content on the National University Alumni Networking Group includes university news and announcements, career information, professional advice and commentary from group members, polls regarding alumni communication and benefits, job listings, and opportunities for networking and employment.

Earlier this year, LinkedIn announced it had reached 200 million user registrations worldwide – with new users being added at an average rate of two per second – doubling its membership in about nine months.

LinkedIn is the social media platform the 2012 Inc. 500—a list of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies compiled annually by Inc. magazine—use most, according to a report from the Center for Marketing Research at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. In fact, 81 percent of the companies on the list employ it, the study shows.
