Governor Brown Appoints Alumna as CIO of Caltrans

 Alumna Gigi Smith (BBA, 1988/MBA, 1990) has been appointed chief information officer at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) by Governor Brown.

Smith has been the CIO of the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs since 2008 and served as the training and marketing director at the California Department of Technology Services from 2007 to 2008. She has served in California state government since 1990.

Starting as a systems analyst at the California Department of Corrections, Smith then worked in several different positions in the California Department of Justice from 1994 to 2000, including staff programmer analyst and staff information systems analyst. She then worked as the project manager at the California State Water Resources Control Board from 2000 to 2001. In 2001, Smith moved to the California Department of Rehabilitation, holding different positions until 2007, including CIO, chief technology officer and technology manager.
