Alumni Around America: Seattle and the Pacific Northwest

National University alumni can be found in every region and in most major metropolitan areas of the United States. This is true of Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; and the Pacific Northwest, where graduates are well represented in the area workforce and the University has a newly-established physical presence.

In Oregon, one will find alumni such as Harry DeWolf, project manager for strategic performance improvement with the U.S. Small Business Administration; Michael Gromek, who is an information technology professional for Oregon State University, and Geralyn Fitzpatrick, who is a mortgage professional with extensive banking experience in the Portland area.

In Washington, one will find graduates such as Paul Shillam (MBA 1979), who was recently elected Chair of the Not-For-Profit Committee of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants; Michal Anderson (MBA, 1992), who is Chief Financial & Operating Officer at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. Alumni in the Pacific Northwest are employed at leading regional companies such as Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks.

This July, National University opened a new Online Information Center (OIC) in Seattle at the Westfield Southcenter Mall. The innovative facility will introduce shoppers and local residents to online education and provide access to interactive demonstrations that will help prospective students explore associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs that are accessible via National University’s convenient online format.

“We’ve been open for about 10 weeks, and we’ve already had a number of alumni come in and visit,” said Seattle OIC Manager Amy Portwood.  “Our online curricula really appeals to residents throughout the region, many of whom are quite tech savvy, and some of whom are isolated in rural and remote areas.”

Ms. Portwood also mentioned a significant presence of military students in the region, including enrollees from Bremerton Naval Base and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. In recognition of its military students, National University recently participated in a veterans’ appreciation day hosted by the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.

There is a group of Pacific Northwest alumni located on Linked for National University graduates and credential completers residing in the states of Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho.
