Visionary Voices Event Funds Military Scholarships

A fundraising gala sponsored by National University on October 27 attracted generous community support for military education, increasing awareness of a nationwide issue and raising scholarship funds for many deserving veteran students.

"Visionary Voices -- A Tribute To Our Veterans" was an inaugural event in support of the Veteran's’ Victory Scholarship, which aims to make higher learning more accessible to the men and women who have served our country through financial assistance to bridge gaps and shortfalls with the G.I. Bill and other subsidies.

General Atomics Vice Chairman Linden Blue and Rear Admiral Ronne Froman, USN (Ret.) co-chaired the gala, serving as effective advocates for its cause and drawing attendance and contributions from business and community leaders.

"Education is really, really key to helping our veterans get a leg up to be able to be successful in the civilian world," said. Adm. Froman. "By establishing the Veterans' Victory Scholarship, National University is broadening the ways it can meet the needs of veteran students."

Sponsors for the event included Wells Fargo, Union Bank, Cubic, Sudberry Properties, General Atomics, the Farrell Family Foundation, General Dynamics, the San Diego Padres, the Burnham Foundaton, McKenna, Long & Aldridge, Tom & Lorna Saiz, Waxie Sanitary Supply, the Midway Museum, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, and SDG&E.

The first three scholarships, in the amount of $5,000, were presented at the event to deserving National University veteran students.

"The Veteran's’ Victory Scholarship provides significant peace of mind by relieving economic instability and enabling less restrictive options while pursuing my career goals," said scholarship recipient and Navy veteran Ryan Boyle.
