Social Networking Opportunities Expand for Alumni
Long before Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn, National University was linking people together on the Web via its impressive slate of online offerings.
National University has long been a source for online relationships – primarily for students on campus, but even some students enrolled in online classes have been able to form business contacts and friendships with fellow classmates that endure long after graduation.
In order to facilitate and strengthen these relationships, National University has taken advantage of the social networking phenomena, recently adding a fan page on Facebook, an alumni group on LinkedIn, and launching other social networking initiatives that are promoting and supporting broader and ever-growing connections among the National University community.
National University’s fan page on Facebook fan includes students and prospective students, as well as faculty, staff and alumni. Graduates and students are able to connect with the University – and with each other. The popular site provides a convenient way to stay current on news about the University, through updates, video clips, photos and overviews from University events. Additionally, the benefit of connecting and networking with others regarding career advancement or academic pursuits, can be invaluable. To date, this site has attracted almost 700 members and is increasing every day as students from throughout the United States – and the world become members.
For a more professional resource, National’s LinkedIn Alumni Group page is a place to post job openings, review resumes, launch threaded discussions regarding professional and job-related topics, and much more. The members of this group continue to grow as alumni begin taking advantage of the resources available at the LinkedIn Alumni Group.
These and other social networking sites are free and easy to join. They enhance greater awareness among alumni regarding University accomplishments, activities and course offerings. Greater alumni awareness enhances the image of National University, in turn elevating the value of the degrees and credentials that alumni have earned here. So whether you’re looking at pictures of friends from the 2009 Southern California Commencement on Flickr, or connecting with other alumni on Facebook – it’s all available at your fingertips.
