National University Golf Academy to Open in September
The National University Golf Academy, which will offer an innovative education program that combines academics with golf at the high school, associate’s and bachelor’s levels, is currently accepting student applications and will begin instruction in September 2009.
National University alumni already appreciate the advantages that their alma mater brings to education and lifelong learning in the 21st century. In the same way that academic studies prepared them for professional success while accommodating life’s competing priorities, the National University Golf Academy can give busy graduates the ability to advance or change their careers in the golf industry.
The National University Golf Academy will offer a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Psychology that is designed to prepare its graduates to combine athletic abilities with a comprehensive understanding of sport psychology.
The Golf Academy’s Associate of Arts with a concentration in Professional Golf Management and certificates in Golf Management and Advanced Golf Management can help open the doors to the thousands of golf facilities around the globe. The stand-alone certificates can be the perfect addition to an already completed degree. Graduates of the Golf Academy’s programs will be qualified for managerial positions at various golf courses and industry related opportunities throughout the world.
The National University Golf Academy is under the direction of Dr. Mac Powell, a Class “A” member of the Professional Golfer’s Association. Dr. Powell also is the author of two books on golf -- Inner Game: Breaking Golf’s Unbreakable Barriers and The Ball is the Enemy -- and a professor of psychology at National University.
Dr. Powell trained at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Center for the Study of Children in Groups and Vista Del Mar’s Family Stress Program in Los Angeles. He also worked as the primary family therapy clinician for a residential treatment facility for women and their families in St. Louis before designing a sports psychology curriculum at the Gateway Golf Academy. He has worked with players at all levels of golf and currently provides seminars and worldwide individual instruction.
