Faculty Member Wins Two Awards for Best Documentary

A film by Michael Zimmer, an assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences' (COLS) department of arts and humanities, earned the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2012 Wisconsin Film Festival and the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary at the 2012 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival.

The title of Professor Zimmer's 91-minute film is The Entertainers, a "heartwarming documentary reminiscent of Spellbound and Word Wars," according to the Wisconsin Film Festival website.  It is about six ragtime piano players from all parts of the country, who compete for the coveted top prize at the World Championship of Old-Time Piano Playing's annual tournament in Peoria, Illinois.

"With unforgettable characters and nonstop ragtime piano playing, The Entertainers is a film that truly lives up to its title," the Film Festival's review goes on to report.
