How To Prepare For A Successful Start
The first class is often an interesting experience for new students due to our one-course-per-month format. Do not be surprised if you think the instructor is moving quickly. The key is keeping up with the course work.
Take the prerequisite courses when required. Prerequisite courses are designed to give your the required level of knowledge to complete a more advanced course.
Order your textbooks early. Don't wait to order your textbooks until after the first class; if you do, you will have fallen behind.
Review the textbooks and the learning outcomes of the course. Information about the learning outcomes of a course can be found in the Course Syllabus under the School or College in which it is taught.
Prepare for the next meeting session by reviewing the previous work, complete any readings and assignments.
Participate in class and ask questions. It never hurts to ask a question and the only bad question is the one you did not ask.
Start written assignments (papers, etc.) early. It will take more time than you think to do the necessary research and write the paper.
Try not to fall behind in your work. Classes move along very quickly and it can be difficult to catch up.
Contact your instructor if you have any questions or are having any problems. Do not wait until the course is over to tell someone you were having a problem with your work.
