Course Description
This two-month online course examines the history of film and digital cinematography, the comparative technical differences of the two methods, and the aesthetic aspects of cinematic practices. Students examine and evaluate cinematic techniques by watching select films and engaging in critical discourse on topics such as lighting, camera movement, camera angles, continuity, cutting, close-ups, and composition. Using digital and 35 mm. still cameras, students also apply cinematic and lighting techniques in controlled studies of digital and film image capabilities. (The results of studies are included as a part of the MFA-DC digital portfolio.)
