Course Description
Introduction to public school finance policies and practices with an emphasis on site level finance. Exploration of federal, state, and local revenue sources, district and school budgeting, and financial management procedures. Introduction to public school budget, accounting procedures, and governing laws. Direction by practicing school administrators when investigating issues in public school finance.
The goals of EDA 619 are to provide an overview of current issues of school finance with an emphasis on the role of the local, county, state, and federal governments in funding education within the context of current political climates, ethics, and diversity. Candidates apply the theory and principles of school finance to practical educational issues of establishing sound financial procedures in preparing school and district budgets, applying knowledge of the impact of special education funding and appropriate state funding issues regarding school budgets.
