Course Description
This course is a comprehensive examination of the history of the Middle East from before the rise of Islam in the early seventh century C.E. to the Muslim conquest of Constantinople in the mid fifteenth. Included will be the life style of the desert nomad, Muhammad and the founding of the Islamic state, its expansion over most of the Middle East and beyond, and the various non-Arab dynasties and empires that took over.
