Grant Staffing Support for Faculty:

The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) exists to support National University's faculty and researchers in their efforts to secure externally funded sponsorship from various sources (primarily governmental) to support program enhancement, scholarly research, and professional development. In the spirit of the NU2010 strategic objective for Academics and research, the OSPR has extended an invitation to the entire Academic community to offer assistance and guidance in grant prospecting, application compilation and submission, post award administration, and compliance oversight.

To date in fiscal year 2007-2008, the OSPR has assisted faculty in submitting more than a dozen grant proposals totaling over $2 million to federal and state agencies. We continuously invite all interested parties to bring forward their research interests and projects for which external funding and support might be sought.

For assistance with any grant-related matters, please contact Michelle Hills, Director of Grants, Contracts, and Budget at x8342 or by email at mhills@nu.edu.

What's Ahead in 2007-2008?

The recent conversion to a Democratic Congress means that more grant competitions will be available in the future. In particular, Homeland Security and Critical Languages, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education research, and Health Science Career Education strategies will be on the radar for Congress. Should you have a particular area of interest in higher education, please contact Dr. Calvet at x8594 for an update on congressional trends. Each day, our team receives news of upcoming grant opportunities and other federal updates from public funding agencies. The OSPR can provide you with specific information on a grant or initiative that you may consider pursuing.

FAQ:

How do I submit a grant on behalf of the National University System?

There is an established and approved process for grant submission through NU because 99 percent of grants are submitted electronically for the entire NU System through grants.gov. The first step is to advise your Dean and call Michelle Hills, the Director of Grants and Contracts at x8342 to discuss the project and obtain support. Next steps include project and budget approval and submission of the project through the grants.gov system, which can be facilitated by Mrs. Michelle Hills.

How do I learn the process of writing a grant?

There are upcoming grant writing workshops that interested researchers who arenovices at grant writing might wish to take advantage of:
