Presidential's Awards
Since the mid-1990s, Presidential Awards for research have been offered to faculty members who have legitimate research interests and who need initial funding or bridge funding for their research activities. Also Presidential Scholar Awards were introduced offering faculty member-- through a peer review process--the opportunity to reduce their teaching loads in order to pursue research grant activities and/or conduct research activities. These developments have been applauded over the years by different faculty groups, including the President's Commission on Research and Scholarship, the Research Council, the Faculty Senate, and the Graduate and Undergraduate Councils. These initiatives have contributed greatly to creating a culture of research and scholarship at the University. Special appreciation is extended to Chancellor Lee for making these opportunities available.
