Letter from the President

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to contribute to the National University Research Council Quarterly by making a few comments on an important aspect of any academic institution's mission – research.

Providing an ongoing forum for the pursuit of knowledge is critical to emphasizing the essential nature that research serves at National University. The new ideas resulting from research help refresh curricula and ultimately enhance learning outcomes. Moreover, a culture of research serves to promote the University to the larger academic community.

Having a forum such as this newsletter encourages all faculty to participate in scholarship relevant to their disciplines. Faculty with active, focused agendas is critical to National University achieving its goals of remarkable schools, continuing quality improvement of academic programs, and enhancing the University's image among its peer institutions.

I appreciate the efforts of the Research Council in continuing to provide venues that promote research, including this newsletter and the successful Faculty Research Conference at this year's Fall Assembly. I wish all of you success in your efforts and commend your diligence in the pursuit of knowledge that comes through actively participating in scholarship and research.

Dr. Dana Gibson
