National University to Host Fourth Generation Maquiladoras in a Global Economy Conference

April 22, 2008

San Diego, CA – National University, Deloitte, and North American Production Sharing, Inc. (tm) announced today that they are hosting the "Fourth Generation Maquiladoras In A Global Economy" conference on May 20 at National University's Spectrum Business Park Campus located at 9388 Lightwave Avenue, San Diego, 92123.

This half-day conference will offer a logical perspective on the current tax and legal regulations and opportunities emerging in today's operations in Mexico.

The expert speakers panel, including Dr. Jorge Carrillo-Viveros, a senior researcher at COLEF and UCSD visiting Fellow, brings a unique and astute perspective to the ever-evolving complexities and benefits of operating in Mexico.  According to Richard Jaime, President, North American Production Sharing, Inc, "Significant worldwide developments are occurring that positively impact the economy in California from a manufacturing globalization standpoint. Manufacturing and production companies are beginning to act accordingly in order to take advantage of the positive environment that has unfolded in recent months, particularly in Tijuana, Mexico.  A conference of this exact nature has never been offered. It is extremely important to convey this information so companies can be informed about the current benefits and opportunities in Mexico."

Included in the speakers list is Craig Colgan, the Vice President of Operations for Castec, Inc. Castec is currently realizing important logistical and financial benefits from managing parallel operations in Mexico, China, and the U.S. Mr. Colgan's perspectives stem from many years of real-world experience in setting up and operating near-shore and offshore operations.

"The business community in the 21st Century must learn to think and operate on a global level in order to compete and survive. This applies to both companies trying to do business in the United States, as well as businesses outside of the US borders. The Fourth Generation Maquiladoras Conference offers a perspective to companies of all sizes and industries, that allows them to learn how to compete in a cost-effective manner that considers supply chain and tax planning advantages, as well as value added opportunities.  It truly is a way business leaders must think in order to grow and serve new markets," said George Agrimis, Associate Faculty with the School of Business and Management at National University.

This important conference will empower attendees with the tools and information necessary to accurately assess whether international operations is a viable strategy for the growth of their company. "The significant 2002 setback in the Maquiladora industry, seemed to distract the attention from the fact that it is still a robust sector of the regional economy, and most importantly, it seemed to overlook its significant developments in the recent years. One of those, is the so-called Maquiladora Fourth Generation and the entry into Mexico by companies from China, which had been perceived years back as a Mexico competitor". – Maurcio Monroy, Managing Partner, Deloitte, Baja.

The conference will be held on May 20th with registration and a continental breakfast beginning at 7:45 a.m. and sessions at 8:30 a.m., and will continue until noon at National University's Spectrum Business Park Campus in San Diego.

The cost for attendance is $25.00. More information, including a downloadable conference program and registration is available at www.maquilaconference.com or by calling 619-846-4101.
